Consortium Statement

The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Awareness Committee (IDEA) of the ABA is proud to announce a renewable subscription commissioning consortium for our membership that over the course of its continuing three-year cycle will enrich the diversity of composers writing for our medium. With input from the membership, the committee will seek out and commission composers representing diverse intersections for new works. It is the committee’s hope that the membership considers this one of ABA’s gifts to, and investments in the future of the band world. We invite all ABA members to support the project either as an individual or an institution.

Composers chosen for the IDEA Composition Consortium will each create a single, original work in one of the following levels: Grade 5-6+ bands, Grade 4-5 bands, or Grade 2-3 bands. Each work will receive its world premiere at our ABA Convention by one of the prestigious ensembles performing.

The $750.00 subscription provides each consortium supporter with a three-year membership that includes the three new works (parts and scores) delivered in PDF form, with the rights to perform the work after the premiere at the ABA convention. The consortium supporter will also be recognized in the score of each new work.

This opportunity presents ABA members with a clear chance to demonstrate support for under-represented composers while investing in great band literature for future generations to come. It is a rare opportunity to be a part of a commission consortium with a $250.00 buy-in per work.

The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Awareness Committee (IDEA) encourages you to complete the attached form with subscription payment, or e-form (https://forms.office.com/r/Hb5asT7Nnv) as soon as possible. The e-form allows the Committee to generate an invoice for institutional payment.  ONLINE PAYMENTS (Credit Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay) ACCEPTABLE THROUGH ABAIDEACONSORTIUM.COM.

The first new work (Grade 4-5) by composer Kevin Day will be premiered at the 2024 ABA convention in Washington, D.C. by the United States Air Force Band conducted by Colonel Don Schofield.

You will not want to miss the chance to be a part of this historic group of committed and dedicated ABA members. Please join us in support of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Awareness in the American Bandmasters Association by enrolling in this consortium today!
